RESCUED BOY FROM DROWNING
SILVER GROSS AWARDED SCOUT (N.Z.P.A. (Special Correspondent.) (Rec. 8 a.m.) LONDON, May 15. The Silver Cross has been awarded to Scout Henry Parkinson, of Opotiki, for rescuing a' boy from drowning last November. The incident occurred in Otiro Channel, when a boy was attempting to take his brother across the river on his back. The younger boy slipped, and. being unable to swim, panicked and grasped his brother tightly round the throat. Scout Parkinson, who was nearby, dived in autl dragged the smaller boy away from his brother to the shore. Although he was able only to save one boy, this was the means of releasing the other brother and so averting a double tragedy.
