ELDERLY MAN’S DEATH. An inquest into the death of a retired waterside worker, ■ William Gilbert. aged 63. who was found dead at his home on May 2, was concluded yesterday before Mr J. D. Willis. S.M., sitting as coroner. A verdict of suicide by coal gas poisoning was returned. .Evidence was given by J. J. Wills, a neighbour of the deceased. Sergeant Devlin, of the North Dunedin police, and Dr E. R. Harty. COAL DUST EXPLOSION, When aii explosion of coal dust from a pulveriser occurred at the Mil burn Lime and Cement Company’s works at Rurnside this inorning, Cedric Mitchell, 35 years of age, of Burnside, was severely burned about the face. He was removed to the Public Hospital, to which he was admitted at 11.45 a.m. MOTORIST INJURED. W lie u two motor cars collided in Neidpath road, just north of Dairy street, shortly after .7 p.tn. yesterday one of the vehicles turned on its side and skidded until it was arrested by a telegraph pole. The driver, Mr J. C-% 'Miller, of 13 Bridger street, Morningtnn, was treated at the Hospital, but later discharged. The occupants of the other car, a man and his wife, ifcrc able to drive away from the scene of the accident. INQUEST. A verdict of death from couiato asphyxia, resulting from a tumour of the brain, was returned by the coroner (Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) at an inquest held to-day on Albert George McTaggart, aged 64, a retired labourer, who was found dead in bed at his home at Broad Bay yesterday morning. Sergeant J. Wilson conducted the inquest, and the result of a post mortem examination was given by Dr _E. F. D’Ath. Evidence of identification was given by Robert Bruce, a commercial traveller, of Broad Bay, a son-in-law of Mr McTaggart. BICYCLE STRIKES PEDESTRIAN. Struck by a bicycle last night at the corner of Hanover and King streets, Evelyn Ann Leask, aged seven, who lives at Beach street. Vauxhall. was admitted to the Public Hospital suffering from a fractured skull. The machine was ridden by a boy. Allan Robert Marychurch.
