POLICE FRUSTRATE STRIKERS’ ATTACK ON BERRIMAH AIRFIELD
(Itee. noon.) SYDNEY, May 16. The Darwin police quickly stopped an attack by strikers against members of the staff of Quantas Empire Airways at Berrimah in the Darwin area, and hare now begun a continuous patrol of the staff quarters. A party of stewards and members of the catering staff, who have been on strike for several weeks, attacked staff members who' were doing 'work normally performed by the strikers. Warned that two truckloads of strikers had left Darwin for Berrimah, a large party of police followed them. The intervention was just in time to prevent a general meelee. The dispute, which concerns alleged .anomalies in pay and conditions, is in a stalemate because the men refuse to return to work until a conciliation commissioner is sent to Darwin, while the court says the men must return to work hpfnre the dispute is dealt with
