INFANTILE PARALYSIS
PERIOD OF HIGH INCIDENCE IN AMERICA PHYSICIANS DISCUSS POSITION CHICAGO, May 1. A panel discussion at the . annual conference of the American College of Physicians indicated that the united States is in a period of high incidence of infantile paralysis, which apparently ■ strikes in cyclical waves, and that the / virus which causes the affliction is., stronger now than it has been for 20 years.. • ■ ■■ ■; Dr Edward Pisczek, medical director .of the Cook County Health De* - partment, expressed the opinion that. the high incidence would continue until all parts of the United.. States had been visited “in a mild form.” , The panel, after a discussion of Sister Kenny’s method. of treatment, which calls for physiotherapy, came to ; the conclusion that her contribution was that she stimulated interest in providing more intensive therapy during convalescence. The panel held, however, that Sister Kenny had mad* no new discovery in the treatment of ■ the disease.. .
