THOUSANDS OUT IN LONDON DOCKERS’ SYMPATHY STRIKE

(Rec. 8 a.m.) LONDON, April 28. About 4,000 Port of London lightermen have stopped work in sympathy with the Glasgow dodkere. who have been on strike for 6ix weeks as a protest against the dismissal of 500 men on the Glasgow register on the ground that the docks were overstaffed. Several thousand members of the Stevedores and Dockers’ Union are also striking. . A union official estimated that 10.000 lightermen and stevedores are idle. The ‘ Evening News ’ say 6 it is almost certain that the vast network of the London docks will be at a standstill to-morrow, OFFICIAL INQUIRY. The Ministry of Labour has promised an inquiry into the Glasgow dock workers’ complaints if work is resumed. Tt added that work could he found pending tho inquiry for the 500 men classified as redundant over whom the strike began.
