Williams, commander of the Northern Alilitary District, has retired, and has been succeeded by Brigadier It. S. Park. - a Mr W. Benzies, officer-in-charge of the apple and pear marketing sections of the Internal Marketing Department, and Mr C. D. Fox, sales manager of the department, arrived from Wellington yesterday. They will leave for; the north on Thursday. Mr R. Alartin, -general manager of Vacuum Oil Company Pty., Ltd., accompanied by Mrs Martin, was to leave Auckland to-day on a business trip to the United States. Mr W. S, McLean will be acting general manager during Air Martin’s absence. Mr F. S. Perrett leaves to-morrow , for Palmerston North to judge at the National Chrysanthemum Show. Mr Perrett will also officiate - at the Wanganui Horticultural Society’s and ‘the Wanganui Chrysanthemum Club’s : ’ Shows. ~. .. Mr D. O’Regan, M.L.C., was held by all sections of the community was shown by a large and representative gathering present at the solemn Requiem Mass celebrated at St. Mary of the Angels Church in Wellington yesterday. Archbishop O’Shea presided and was assisted by the Rt Rev. Monsignor T. F. Connelly and the Very Rev. Father L. Evatfc. The sermon was preached by the Very Rev. Father T. M. Heffeman; the celebrant of the mass was the Rev. -Father P. F. Kane, the deacon was the. ‘ Very Rev. Father M. Bourke, and the, : sub-deacon was'the'Rev. Father W. Buckley. The mass was sung by * choir of priests'and boys from St. Patrick’s'College. The large gathering. included the Prime Minister, ’ Mr Fraser, the' AttorneyiGeneraL Mr Mason, and' the Speaker of the Legislative Council, Mr Mark Fagan, representatives of the judiciary and the legal profession and numerous publio bodies. „ . Mr R. R. Hunter, formerly senior inspector of schools in Otago, has been. , elected to the Otago Educatipn Board, replacing the late Mr James Wallace. Two nominations for the position .were received from school committees in the urban area, Air Hunter polling 83 votes and Airs S.. C.
