LITTLE LIGHT ON MURDER MYSTERY

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 28. The focus of police activities in the investigations into • the death _ of Francis Roy Wilkins, who was killed a week ago, has now turned on the Adelaide road area of Newtown, not a great distance from Wilkins’s business premises in Palm Grove. Wilkins was often in the vicinity where police inquiries have been concentrated, and at least one person who does, business in the locality identified the dead man as a person he had frequently otjserved during business hours in this iparL .He had not known his name until he recognised Wilkins from photographs pub-' lished after his death. * Rumours of an arrest continued to circulate in the city to-day, hut these are probably connected with the questioning of many people in connection with the case. SEARCH OF SEA BED. A message received this afternoon states that a Wellintgon police launch attempted a search of the sea bed at Evans Bay, close to where the body was thrown into the harbour. The equipment included an under-water light and a water glass to search the bottom ill 18ft of water, but a northerly wind made the surface too choppy for an intensive search, which will probably be postponed till the wind drops. The police inquiries continue to .engage almost all the available detectives in the city. Newtown has been a centre of investigations, and certain premises there have been photographed.
