DUNEDIN OWNER AND HORSES ATTEMPTED BRIBERY ALLEGED (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, April 20. The first day of the Southland Racing Club’s Winter Meeting yesterday ended on a sensational note. The Judicial Committee of therdub met after the last race, and, after a prolonged inquiry, found P. Dalliessi, of Dunedin, guilty of corrupt practice, and disqualified him for life. Dalliessi, the owner of Diarma, who contested the Bluff Handicap, was charged under Rule 338 (la), with offering a bribe to L. W. Hare to run secondTwith Detain in the Bluff Handicap. The charge was laid by the stipendiary steward, Mr C. F. Hartland. ’ After evidence had been taken from J, A. Wilson, the owner-trainer of Detain, L. W. Hare, the rider of Detain, and Dalliessi, the Judicial Committee decided to disqualify Dalliessi for life. Detain, who was a pronounced favourite, won the Bluff Handicap, in which Diarma was unplaced. The life disqualification imposed on Dalliessi also means that all the horses owned by him are automatically disqualified.- Diarma. who won the Southern Champion Hack Handicap at Riverton, is one of the most promising three-vear-olds raced in Southland this season.
