EXECUTIVE MEETING It was decided to ask the Associated Chambers of Commerce to make representations to the Government for the removal of sales tax on crockery at the Aveekly meeting of the executive ot the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce, held yesterday. In reply to the Associated Chambers, the Postmaster-General acknowledged receipt of a letter urging that' the Government reduce postage and other rates to the pre-war level. The reply stated: “ My department is at present engaged in a review of the whole question. As this entails a comparison of all rates and charges with existing costs, as well as with costs which nan be expected to obtain when conditions become more stabilised, it may .be som'e time before the investigation is completed.” The Minister of Industries and Commerce, Mr Sullivan, in a letter dated February 24, advised the Associated Chambers that he had no knowledge of any approach being made to’the Government for any legislative amendment to the Sea Carriage of Goods Act, but that if and when such approach was made, the Associated Chambers of Commerce and other interested bodies would be consulted upon the matter.
