CAVERSHAM POST OFFICE
i —i ———- UNDER CONSIDERATION
At the quarterly general meeeting of the Caversham Ratepayers’ and Householders’ Assocation it was reported that the association’s request for the establishment of a post office at Caversham was still under consideration by the Post and Telegraph Department. Mr J. C. Wallace presided over the meeting. It was. stated that the request for a handrail on the steps leading from Valley road to Main South road was rejected by the council, which considered the facility not warranted. It was decided to refer the matter to the council again. The council advised that the kerbing and channelling of Thomson street would be included in next year’s estimates and the tar-sealing of Ryehill street would be considered with other allocations.
In response to a request for additional lighting at the tram terminus the council agreed to change one light for one of stronger candle-power.
It was decided to write to the Traffic Department regarding the hoardings at the terminus which the association considered to be a danger to traffic as they obscured vision from certain angles. The Railways Department advised that a 20ft fire break would be cut on the side of the railway track so as to prevent fire menace to private properties. It was agreed to circularise all ratepayers’ associations with a view to having all public clocks in the city synchronised. It was decided to send a letter to Lady Side.v thanking her for her financial assistance towards the purchase of the Memorial Recreation Ground, and also to Mr T. K. S. Side.v for handling the legal affairs of the purchase.
