INCREASED PRODUCTION IN JANUARY POLAND TAKES BRITAIN'S PLAGE AS LARGEST EXPORTER (N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent.) Glee. 10 u.m.) LONDON, March 4. Provisional production figures for January issued by the European Coal Organisation show a slight, though general, increase in coal output in urope. The Ruhr output continues to make slow recovery, but Poland has taken the place of Britain as the largest coal exporters on the Continent.
Production rose in all countries in spite of the interruption of the Christmas holidays. Western Germany produced nearly 1,000,000 tons more coal than ,in December, and Polish output increased by 370,000 tons during the month. French production rose to 117 per cent, of the average for the three years prior to the war. Belgium reached 90 per cent, of her pre-wjir production, and the Netherlands 76 per cent.
