OVERSEAS MANUFACTURING FIRM

INQUIRIES IN DUNEDIN A large overseas organisation ' manufacturing glucose, dextrin, cornflour, ana associated products, the main ones of which are lacquer solvents, is at present undertaking a survey of the Dunedin district to ascertain the suitability of a location for a Dominion factory. The works will employ 150 men, apart from other labour, and will need a certainty of supplies of coal, water, and electricity. The raw materials used in the industry are potatoes and maize, and as it is intended that the production is to be on a national scale to eliminate imports, the farming community should benefit substantially from such an establishment. The New Zealand representative of the overseas firm concerned, who is a Dunedin resident, had nothing further to add when approached by the ‘ Star ’ this morning.
