MR STANHOPE FORBES

(Rec. 11.20 a.m.) LONDON. Mar. 3. The death has occurred of Mr Stanhope Alexander Forbes, R.A., aged 90, at Newlyn, Cornwall.

The ‘ (Manchester - Guardian ’ describes him as the oldest and the most distinguished representative of the English naturalistic painters known as the Newlyn School after the village where the. colony lined and practised for 60 years. •

Among his pictures exhibited in the Royal Academy were ‘ The Village Philharmonic,’ ‘ The Quarry Team,’ ‘ The Salvation Army,’ 1 Forging the Anchor,’ ‘ The Smithy,’ and ‘ Xmas Eve.’
