BRUTAL SPORT

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir,—” Pugilio ” says brutality is inseparable from a prize fight; in fact, is the drama and life blood of such a contest. What an admission! These words are sufficient to convince the public that the title of this letter is correct, and, if that is so, fighting should be outlawed and stopped. If it is not against the laws of man, it is against the laws of God Who created the delicate bodily structure, which should be regarded as sacred. Two men stand before a crowd of both sexes and batter each other into a bloody mess. Why call this sport? When two men fight in the street they are transgressing against the law of the country; yet they are victims of emotion, and for that reason are more to be excused than two men fighting in a public building for a purse—ready to gamble their bodies for a cash prize, What is troubling me is the increasing number of my sex being present at these exhibitions, which must tend to make them callous and indifferent to human suffering. _ There is enough man-made misery in the world to-day; it is time the public conscience was awakened to one of the many causes in all so-called civilised lands.—l am. etc.. Gentle Sex. March 3.
