. (From Our Correspondent.) PERSONAL, Mr E. L. Egarr, who-' for the pastnine years'lias been clerk of court, registrar of births, ' deaths, and. marriages at Balclutha, and also registrar of electors for Clutha, has received notice of his transfer on promotion to Levin and Otaki, and will leave for his new, position this month. During his stay in Balclutha Mr Egarr has taken aii active part in both the Balclutha Bowling and Golf Clubs, being secretary of the latter for some, years! Mrs Egarr was also an active member of the Ladies’ Golf Club.

Members of St. John’s Mothers’ Union, Milton, last week entertained Mrs J. Campbell, who is shortly taking up residence in Brighton, at afternoon tea, and presented her with a small gift as a token of appreciation. The vicar. Rev. H. Hook, and enrolling member, Mrs E. Hughes,, both spoke of the interest taken by Mrs Campbell in the M.U., and wished her all success in her new home. BOWLING.

Eight rinks from Balclutha Club visited Gore on Saturday and played Hokpnui, the resiilt being a win for the home team by 48 points. Three rinks from . Balclutha had wiiis. Scores. Balclutha . Club last week completed the senior singles championship, when L. Cockerill defeated M. Campbell by 17 to 15, after being down. 8 on the twelfth end.

The Benhar green is to be put in order.for next season after being out of commission for some years. At the last meeting of the South Otago Centre a suggestion was made that steps be taken to have the club resuscitated, and it is understood that the present decision is ..the outcome. McSkimming and. Son have generously agreed to give £1 for £1 subsidy towards the cost of getting the green in order. A working bee commenced operations on Saturday, and prospects are that the club will have a successful spin.

SO. FRIENDLY SOCIETIES. The twentieth annual meeting of the South Otago Friendly Societies' Hos-. pital Benefit Association; 'held last week, was presided; over by Mr J. H. Guest. The balance sheet showed that receipts from members totalled £1,015 15s, while interest’ and the amount brought forward from last year (£4lO 3s lid) brought the' total to £1,471 8s 3d. Payments to members totalled £716 Is 2d. The association’s assets showed a balance of £1,405 13s over liabilities. ' Office-bearers elected were:—Chairman,‘Mr J. H. Guest; deputy, Mr C. E. O’Hara; secretary, Mr J. McNaughton: auditors, Messrs ; M. E. Paul and H. E. Ransome.

five, for 23, and the latter five for 20. U.F.S. DISPENSARY. : • -The twenty-ninth annual meeting of Milton (J.F.S. Dispensary was held.last week, Mr G. •H. Thomson presiding. The balance sheet, showed that in the trading account cash sales amounted to £1,585, and social security payments to £4,240 0s lid, making the total sales £5,825 0s lid, compared - with £4,536 16s 2d. A sum of £IOO had - been added to the reserve account, bringing this to £I,OOO. The number, of prescriptions dispensed.-was 19,680. % compared with 17,757 in ' the previous year. A further £4OO was; invested *in national savings, bringing the total in this to £1,451 ss. The amount of £IOO was distributed from profits to affiliated lodges, grants made to juvenile lodges, and £5 donated to the Chemists’ Ser : vice Guild towards.sending food parcels to England.
