CORSTORPHINE HOUSING AREA
CHURCH SERVICES ARRANGED The vestry of St. Peter’s Parish, Caversham, . having accepted responsibility for the opening of church services in this new area lias shown com-' meudable activity in the matter. Some months past two sections were chosen in a central position for a school hall and church site, which the housing authorities subsequently agreed to set aside for these purposes. Following upon this the vestry then purchased from the War Assets' Realisation Board a building suitable for a hall for removal and re-erection on the site. Recently the excavations were completed and a start made with the foundation for the building.. In this connection very valuable assistance has been rendered by Mr L. D. Coombs, architect, who drew up plans and specifications in an honorary capacity. The vestry’s next move was to agree to the appointment of an .assistant to the vicar, Canon Pywell, and the Rev. A. V. Jaquiery, of Invercargill, began only last month. A gratifying feature is the interest being shown in the scheme by parishioners generally, who are‘supporting an appeal for funds issued last December. As evidence of this may be cited the encouraging experience of Canon Pywell, who last week was handed £SO towards the cost of this extension work.. When the hall is completed a Sunday school and church services will be commenced,- and later it is hoped it will he possible to erect an attractive church on the corner section.
