TRENTHAM CANDIDATES
PRIVILEGE DOUBTFUL STARTER
QUEEN’S GENERAL IMPRESSES
(Special) CHRISTCHURCH, March 4. Privilege was unable .to act on the hard ground at Motukarara, and as she suffered from feet trouble after the race, it is not likely she will' be taken to Trentham. Le Sonnet, a brother to Air Ace, whom he closely resembles, created a good impression by his win at Motukarara, and provided he keeps sound li© will reach top class. His activities this season have been restricted by leg trouble, which now appears to have been overcome. Indian Dawn was set a severe task jm Saturday by dwelling on the mark and losing several lengths,. No notice need be taken of her defeat and she will again be in evidence at Trentham. , Queen’s General was responsible.for a solid effort in , winning over nine furlongs at Motukarara. He was better favoured at the start than some of his opponents, and taking the lead inside the first furlong was never in any danger. He carried 9.0, and with a 61 b renandicap at Trentham he will have the same poundage. The field does not appear to be very strong and the Ricearton gelding promises to,take part in the finish. Lady Welbeek is also in this race; she too ran a sound race on Saturday, submitting to. defeat at the ; end pf a mile and aquarter in the last stride' only' to Pandemonium, who raced prominently at Trentlianvin January., ' Another Ricearton candidate in the race, Beau ideal, had two races on Saturday! He was not prominent in the High-weight event, but put up a good effort to *fill second place to Queen’s General,' who conceded him 51b. The difference at Trentham will be 111 b, so Beau Ideal, who is partial to a journey,' may again return a dividend <
Night Child ran a very poor race in the Peninsula Handicap, and on that form cannot be recommended for her- engagements at Trehtham. She has, at times, given indications of winning a, good middle, distance race,, hut lias not often raced iip to expectations. Nolle of her recent efforts would suggest she had prospects in the Autumn Handicap next Saturday.
Foxhaven has not shown any of his old usefulness in/his races this year, and hardly looks a likely proposition for the Thompson Handicap. He may be seen to better advantage over more ground on the second day if the track should become soft. " ; .
