SMALL CARS
READY MARKET IN AMERICA The removal in the U.S.A. of price control on motor cars of British and French manufacture will lead to increased exports of vehicles from those countries to the States, for both nations are keen oh tapping the U.S.A. market. Even before controls were lifted, some thousands of small and medium-sized can made in Britain and France were shipped to America and found a ready market. In New York alone a large distributor of British cars in that centre recently stated that he could sell thousands of these models at 1.600 dollars each •. >00) if they were available. Part of tms extraordinary demand in the States for low-powered British cars no doubt is due to the shortages of new American cars, bilt, according to the New York trader, there are many thousands of prospective buyers in that country who are waiting, ca6b in hand, to drive away a British car if they can get it. The" pre-war exchange of new motor vehicles between the Uniited States and Great Britain, for the time being, has been turned greatly in favour of the British manufacturers. Before the war few British low-powered cars found their way to the United States, whereas thousands of large American and Canadian machines were shipped annually to Britain.
Indications are that, althougli America is the land of large powerful automobiles, there is an increasing demand springing up in that country for low-powered British cars of good performance and economy in use. In fact, there seems to be a permanent, although comparatively small, market for low h.p. cars in the U.S.A. and Canada
