CROQUET TOURNEY
DUNEDIN PLAYERS PROMINENT TIMARU, February 27. Two Dunedin players have already figured in final events at. the South Canterbury Croquet Association’s annual tournament, which will conclude to-morrow. They are Mrs IJ. H. Clark, who beat Mrs A. G. Knowles (Timaru) 26-24 after an exciting finish.in .the levels singles, and Mrs G. Metcalf, who won the doubles championship with Mrs D. Strang (Invercargill) m a hard tussle against two local players, Mesdames H. Patchett and*N. Gabites, with a close final score of 26-24. Gusty wind made accurate play difficult yesterday, but spectators saw some of the most interesting play of the tournament. Results:— OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP. Semi-final.—W. H. Kirk (Geraldine) beat Mrs G. Metcalf (Dunedin), 26-16, 26-11. LEVEL SINGLES. Final.—Mrs R. H. Clark (Dunedin) beat Mrs' A. G. Knowles (Timaru), 26-24. DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIP. Final.—Mesdames G. Metcalf (Dunedin) and D. Strang (Invercargill) beat Mesdames H. Patchett and N.'Gabites (Timaru), 26-24.
B GRADE BUTTON. Semi-final.—Miss Osborn (Ashburton) beat Mrs Tulley (Timaru), 26-14. Final.—Mrs J. Sligo (Timaru) beat Miss Osborn (Ashburton), 26-23.;
