NO DUEL
ADVERSARIES REACH AGREEMENT
(Rec. 12.5 p.m.) ROME, Feb. 24. It is reported that Colonel llandolfo Pacciardi and Tiilli Benedetti have reached agreement. It is believed that the duel has not been fought. A later message states that the duel was postponed because one of the principals was ill.
[A message published yesterday stated : Italy's first post-war political duel is timed for dawn to-morrow, says Reuter’s Rome correspondent. Colonel Randolfo Pacciardi, leader of the Left .Wing Republican "Party, challenged Tulli Benedetti, editor of the Right Wing newspaper, ‘ Giornale Della Se»a,’ over an article criticising one of Colonel Pacciardi’s speeches. Duelling is illegal in Italy, but the police , are barred from Parliament Buildings, and Togliatti, the Communist leader, said the duel might be fought there. Togliatti added: “ They cannot use pistols, because they might break windows, which are very dear these days.”]
