ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The annual junior and women’s athletic championships and the Otago cycling championships will be held at the Caledonian Ground to-morrow evening and on Saturday morning and afternoon.
The principal athletic event to-mor-row will be the one-mile junior championship, for which F. L. Perry (Leith) arid G. R. Campbell (Caversham) are strong contenders. On Saturday afternoon a full programme of track and field events will engage junior and women athletes. The 440yds and 880vds junior races, in which the New Zealand champion, C. Simpson (St. Kilda) will meet T. B. Richardson (Invercargill). should be outstanding events. Keen competition between Misses S. Hardman, N. Gourley, and Y Williams is expected in the women's sprints. Miss Gourley will also appear in the 80 metres hurdle race, for which she holds the New Zealand championship and record. Another national champion who will be competing is Miss S. Allington (North Otago) in the javelin throw.
