BRITISH CIVILIANS ARMED

BUSINESS MEN CARRY REVOLVERS (Rec< 8 a.m.) JERUSALEM, February 17. The Military Authority has approved of the carrying of arms by 800 British business men living in the security cantonments in Haifa. Most of the business men carry automatics in shoulder holsters. They are permitted to leave their barbed-wire zones if they travel in fours and are armed. The Irgun Zvai Leumi secret radio to-day threatened: “The British will he held responsible for the murder of our prisoners of war.” The threat followed the confirmation of the death sentences on February 14 on three Jews for carrying arms and kidnapping and flogging Major Brett.
