HAMMOND ON THE BANK
ANXIOUS ABOUT LAST TEST ) ___ POSSIBLY HIS LAST [By Arthur Mailey.] MELBOURNE, February 15. , ’ Owing to an attack of lumbago and fibrositis. Walter Hammond, England’s captain, was not available gainst Victoria.' He has had periodical attacks of lumbago for some years, and now this complaint seems to be aggravated by a rather severe form of fibrositis. It is quite possible that he will be- unable to. play in..the game against : New Soutli Wales arid ; also in ■ the last test, but this he will not know definitely: until he arrives in Sydney. Hammond is tremendously anxious to play in the Sydney test because of the Sossibility of it being the last test of is career. -
There is no doubt that the intense heat in Adelaide took more vitality out of Hammond than he; cares to admit. "When I kpoke to him lie certainly did not giv.e the appearance of one who should be playing first class cricket. To.me he Iqpked washed up and tired, although he still retains his cheerfulness.
