OLYMPIC GAMES
GERMAN AND JAPANESE PARTICIPATION NEW YORK, Febrnary 14. Air Dan Ferris, a member of the American Olympic Committee and secretary-treasurer of the American Amateur Athletic Union, expressed the view that England should invite Japan and Germany to compete hr the 1948 Olympic Games in London. Mr Ferris said: “I have "talked to quite a lot of our ex-servicemen, and they could not see why they should not compete with Germans and Japanese—and they are the ones who did the fighting. German and Japanese athletes were not responsible for the war or conditions which prevailed in their countries, and if the youth of .’"those countries are denied participation in the Olympic Games they will be sour on the rest of the world.”
[The British Olympic Committee recently announced that it was not inviting Japan or Germany to the Olympic Games in 1948:]
