MILK DELIVERIES
NEW SYSTEM PROPOSED ARRANGEMENTS IN HAND An alteration to the system of milk delivery in Dunedin was referred to in the Arbitration Court this morning during the hearing of the Dunedin retail milk employees’ dispute. Mr W. C. Macdonnell, the representative of the union, said that he had inquired into the statements made previously concerning a suggested cooperative company, and although some of the roundsmen knew of it, a considerable body of them knew nothing whatever of it.
Later, the employers’ representative (Mr A. S. Cookson) said that it wa,s a fact that the whole system of milk delivery in Dunedin was going to be changed very shortly. A building had already been erected in the vicinity of Logan Point, and would be the receiving depot for the milk. Deliveries would be made by a co-operative society, which comprised many of the present roundsmen, who would not be employing labour. The whole of the milk would be bottled, which would enable it to be handled quicker and more easily than “ loose ” milk.
