£I,OOO WORTH STOLEN REMOVAL IN SHOPPING HOURS (P.A.) WANGANUI, February 3. , Twenty-two diamond rings, the value of which has not ' been given officially, hut at conservative estimate must be more than £I,OOO, were stolen from the shop of J. Williams and CoLtd. on Friday. 1 The theft was accomplished in,a particularly daring fashion during shopping hours. The rings were set in a plush-finished tray for window display purposes, and it is believed that a person skilled in lifting valuable, property took up a position inside the shop and near the street windows, assuming the appearance of a customer. Then, when opportunity offered, he calmly passed a hand into the window, removed the tray, -and walked out, probably after having put the tray in a bag" or a basket. The police have the matter in hand.
