YACHT DRIFTER

GOOD PERFORMANCE IN STORM (P.A.) AUCKLAND,. Jan. 27. _ “ Though we had every confidence in the Drifter before we started for Hobart, the way she behaved in a storm off Cape Reinga amazed us all,” said the yacht’s skipper, Mr Ken Pragnell, on his return to Auckland this morning. “We would now be prepared to go anywhere in her,” he added. The boat, he said, had ridden through the gales of January 15 aiid 16 like a cork, and had never caused the crew a moment’s anxiety. It was estimated that the wind was blowing 40 miles an hour. Owing to the illness of a member of the crew the Drifter had to turn back when 200 miles south-west of North Cape. Present intentions are that the yacht will start in next, year’s transTasman race.
