FINAL GALLOPS AT TRENTHAM
SLEEPY FOX BRILLIANT SOLID EFFORTS BY CUP CANDIDATES (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 16. Features of. the final track .gallops at Trentham this morning were a brilliant three Jurlongs by Sleepy Fox, a smart six furlongs by Lord Elgin and .Privilege, and solid mile efforts by - tbs majority of the Cup candidates. The course proper was in first-class order and provided fast going. . Master Dash and Sea Fury were together at the eonipletiou of. five furlongs in' 1.2 2-5, the first furlong in 13 4-5., .-'/'
Al-Sirat appeared to have the edge on Bridge Acre over six furlongs in 1.17 3-5, the first three in 36 3-5. Renowned was sent half a mile, coming home in -53, and Full of Fun was a shade in' front of Atomic Energy in a similar task in 50.
Blue Bonny led King Tissa throughout half a mile in 47 4-5, but King Tissa was doing his work comfortably. Faultina slipped over three furlongs in -36, and General; Victory, and Royal Cambria registered 35 2-5. - Raliine.was not required to .do his best to cover seven furlongs in 1.31 2-5, the first three in 38 2-5.
Selas wqs always clear of Griffin and Superium at the end of six furlongs in 1.17 4-5, although Griffin finished very solidly. ■■ Fleetwood was half a length in front of Keening after running the'last halfmile of work in. 53 4-5, and, Revivre. and Flare Path ran their section in 49 2-5.
Theocritus and Opulent were on terms, four lengths clear of Da Vinci at the end of five furlongs in 1.2 1-5, the first furlong in 12 2-5. Impressive Trial. Desert Fox galloped really well to beat Devonogue.over seven furlongs in 1.28 4-5. Desert Fox will he ridden by A. Midwood.
Thornbridge and Bruce galloped freely to run a mile in 1.44 4-5, the last six in 1.19, 3-5. Bruce was going nicely at the end, and is a fit horse.-,
Lady Christine ran home from the half-mile post in 48 4-5, and Beautiful registered 49 1.5 for a similar task. Lord Elgin and Privilege set the main ‘over six furlongs, to come in on terms in 1.15 2-5, the first two in' 25 3-5.- Privilege has. worked well since being at Trentham. Hormuz got to the end of se.ven furlongs in 1.34,1-5, and worked with his usual freedom. Hot Pursuit - drew out in the final furlong to beat Capronella and IndianGold at the end of a mile in 1.46 3-5,: the' last half-mile in 52 2-5. _ None of' the three was required to give of his best.
■ Foxliaven wo iked with plenty of dash to beat Catterick Bridge ■ over seven furlongs in 1.30 1-5, the last half-mile in 51 J-4. Young- Trent was’ under restraint' throughout six furlongs in 1.21 _ 2-5, and .Indian Dawn and Peculate finished on terms over the same ground in 1.18 2-5. / Sleepy Fox showed liis usual brilliance to scamper home from three furlongs in 34 4-5. ’He bears a very bright appearance. / i GOLDEN SOUVENIR.; Golden Souvenir, Signal Officer, and Longsword finished in that order after running a mile in 1/43, and' breaking. 50 for the final half. Golden Souvenir appeared to be doing the best at the: post. He will b'e ridden-in the Cup' by C. T., Wilson, and IV. J. Broughton will handle, his stablemate, Bruce. The two-year-olds,'’Bronstar, Sea Flower, and (Marilyn shaped well to traverse half a mile, in, 48 1-5, with the last named under a hold throughout.
