MEETING OF COMMITTEE OTAGO TEAM CONGRATULATED At a meeting of the committee of the 'Otago Cricket ’ Association. held last night, the chairman, Mr W. S. Armitage, congratulating the Otago team and its captain (Mr W. A. Had-' lee) on their excellent performances in the Plunket Shield matches played on tour, said that although Otago was, in the matter of points, at the foot of tlie list, its iplay in the matches named had been warmly commended by the newspapers in the north. MATCHES WITH SOUTHLAND. The Southland Cricket Association wrote asking for a return game with Otago at Invercargill and that, in the event of the fixture being possible, the Otago team should be at full strength. It was decided to inform Southland that an effort would be made to send a team, which would be the best available, during Easter. Thanks for the satisfactory arrangements made in connection with, the match at Dunedin on December 26 and 27 were conveyed in a letter from the Southland association, in which appreciation of the assistance rendered by Messrs J. Fleming,\L. A. Milnes, and H.' Fogarty was also expressed. COUNTRY CRICKET. The Maniototo Cricket Sub-associa-tion wrote stating that January 28 and 29 would be the more suitable dates for a match at Dunedin between the subassociation and a metropolitan side. It was decided to offer Maniototo a match with a metropolitan second eleven on the dates mentioned, this to be played on a ground other than Carisbrook.

The Upper Clutha and West Otago Sub-associations wrote intimating that they would be sending teams to take part in the proposed “ Country Week ” at Dunedin in March. Upper Clutha expressed its approval of the suggestion to arrange the matches to coincide with the proposed visit of the English team. In the event of that team not visiting Dunedin,' the subassociation would fall in with whatever arrangements were thought desirable. REPORTS BY MANAGERS.

, Reports bn the northern tour were made by Mr S. Duncan (manager) and Mr W. A. Hadlee (captain), both of whom expressed appreciation, of the treatment the members of the Otago team had received at the hands of the officials and others at Christchurch, Auckland, and Palmerston North. Mr Hadlee gave a resume ’ of the play in each of the matches, and stated that the game at Auckland was perhaps the most interesting, and the most enjoyable of any in which he had ever taken part. - . It was stated that the gate takings at 'the Canterbury and Auckland matches had exceeded £7OO in each case, and that Otago’s share would be upward of £IOO from each of these matches. Mr W. Braithwaite and Mr J. A. Young reported on the matches clayed by the Otago team in the Brabin Shield series, the honours in winch had been carried off by Canterbury. Mr Braithwaite paid a special tribute to the young Otago player, N. McGregor, whose batting, bowling, and fielding were*- he said, of a high stan-

dard. It was decided to award to N. McGregor the, trophy presented, bv the Otago Sports Depot for the best allround player'in the Otago side. ' Mr H. Fogarty reported on the Otago-Southland and Otago-North Otago “ under 25 ” matches. Mr J. Walls was appointed manager of the Otago team for the Wellington match, which commences at Carishrook on January 31. BOWLING FEATS ACKNOWLEDGED. It was decided that the ball with which G. W. Overton had performed the “ hat trick ” in the Plunket Shield match against Canterbury' be mounted and engraved and presented to that player during the Otago-Wellington match; also that a similar presentation be made to Y. McArley, who did the “ hat trick ” in tlie “ under 25 ” match against North Otago.
