“BRIDE SHIP”
WIVES AND FIANCEES OF U.S. SERVICEMEN MARINE PHCEMIX ARRIVES (P.A.) Auckland!, jan. 10. One of the last of the Australian “ bride ships,” the Marine Phoenix, arrived at Auckland this morning en route to San Francisco. Eighty-five per cent, of the 560 passengers were women, mostly fiancees, but some wives of American servicemen. Although travelling under more or less troopship conditions the girls had no complaints of travelling conditions. . The. Marine Phoenix will make two more trips to New Zealand and Australia before replacement by the Matson liners now being overhauled.
