THE DOCKYARD DEADLOCK

Negotiations between the employer* and the unions last night failed to settle the waterfront dispute which has tied up 62 Sydney ship repair shops and dockyards since November 28. The Trades and Labour 'Council reports that a committee and the employers will confer again to-day. The dockyards have been'idle sine© the employers decided to close down because of what they alleged was the victimisation of Mort’s Dock: which . had been forced to close earlier because of union demands for an increase of a pound weekly in wages. Since the dispute began, 8,000 men have been thrown out of work for a wage loss estimated at £300,000.
