DIGNITY LOST
SCENE IN JUDGE’S CHAMBERS
DEFENDANT KNOCKED DOWN (Rec. 11.40 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Nov. 24
A message from Atlanta (Georgia) states that the Assistant State At-torney-General, Mr Don Duke, knocked down Mr Emory Burke, president of the Anti-Jewish and Anti-negro Columbians’ Incorporated during an argument in the judge’s chambers over State action to revoke the organisations’ charter. Mr Duke, shouting, “ I have taken all 1 can from you,” floored Mr Burke with a smashing left to the head. Judge Pomeroy thereupon suggested that Mr Duke leave the judicial chamber, saying, “ I’ll handle this.”
The judge later told reporters that he would not take cognisance of Mr Duke’s action, as his back was turned and he did not see anything. Mr Duke complained that Mr Burke, by implication, accused him of not being of pure Anglo-Saxon strain. Judge Pomeroy granted the Columbians a six-day postponement of the State’s revocation suit.
