OWNER STOPS PANIC
BALL OF FIRE HITS PICTURE THEATRE FIERCE STORM IN SYDNEY SYDNEY, November 24. Lightning blasted a crowded picture theatre, a bakery, and a flat during a short, fierce storm in Sydney last night. At the Plaza Theatre, in the suburb of Waterloo, a ball of fire burst through the projection box window and set 800 ft of film on fine. Women in the. audience screamed as flames flared inside the projection box and smoke curled out of it. The theatre owner stopped the panic by talking to the audience from the stage until they were able to file out. A bakery at Maroubra Junction had its chimney , split by lightning which dislodged bricks and tore a hole in the iron roof, but little other damage was done. In a flat at King’s Cross lightning set fire to a veranda, but it w r as soon extinguished.
