SECRETARY RENEWS DEMAND
EXPLICIT STATEMENT BY MR HOLLAND SOUGHT (P.A.) WELLINGTON, November 14. “ What Civil servants are asking for is a clear statement from Mr Holland that the policy of his party, will not involve retrenchment of Civil servants,” said Mr J. Turnbull, secretary .of the Public Service Association, today. He said the Public Relations Sub-committee of the combined organisations of State employees had met this morning and prepared this statement : “ Neither Mr W. J. Poison’s letter nor his Press statement provides such assurance. Our motive in seeking this asurance is not to embarrass the National Party, but to protect the livelihood of our members, which appears to be threatened by the statements of which we complain.” Mr Turnbull added that as Mr Poison had resorted to personalities, in his reply, the combined organisations had directed him (Mr Turnbull) to make it clear that the letter to Mr (Holland was written and published on behalf of all of them. The Central Committee comprised representatives of- the four railway organisations, the three teachers’ organisations, the post and telegraph employees, the . police, and tho public servants’ associations.
