DUNEDIN ANGLERS FORTUNATE TOMAHAWK LAGDON YIELD ; . 'i ' ... A recent visitor to Dunedin, Mr N. It. Allen, a biologist from the fisheries laboratory of the Marine I)e----partment, Wellington,' was greatly impressed by the possibilities for fishing m the Tomahawk Lagoon, reports the secretary of the Otago Acclimatisation Society (Mr L. Millar)./' Dunedin anglers were/ fortunate, considered Mr Allen, in 'having -such an excellent stretch of yvater ■ at■ their back door. 'From reports and diaries in the possession- of the department, it had been estimated that the Tomahawk Lagoon : carried' approximately 1401 b of fisli-per Acre, -which was. regarded as an excellent yield. Much more data were still required,. Mr Allen informed the spciety, and anglers could assist best' by keeping accurate diaries of fish taken so that these records could be forwarded to the fisheries laboratory in Wellington. A general survey of the whole of New Zealand is being undertaken, and it is hoped to get anglers to record more information concerning their catches from the various waters.Diaries for - the purpose may be obtained from the Otago Acclimatisation .Society, but it is emphasised that the Value of any diary lies in a continuous record being kept from year to year.
