ELIGIBILITY CHALLENGED
NOMINATION OF MINERS' PRESIDENT OHFINANCIAL MEMBER AT TIME (tßeo 11 ;a.m ) SYDNEY, NoV; 13. When Mr H. Wells, general president of the (Miners’ Federation, was found to be unfinahcial. after the receipt of his nomination for this year’s presidential ballot, many members of' the federation were prepared t<r rule him ineligible, even though his dues were promptly paid. ' : ' The ballot was postponed for a fortnight while the council decided whether fresh nominations should be called for. Last night 14 members of the council were evenly divided on the question of his ©legibility. ; Mr _ Wells solved the problem by using his casting vote to declare his nomination eligible. j; The miners’ lodges still have to ap» prove of the decision,‘however, and an election will not be held before Jan* uary. Mr Wells is a prominent Communist.
