NEW ZEALAND'S BUTTER MR HOLLAND INDICTS GOVERNMENT (P.A.) PALMERSTON N. ; Nov. 12. “ One of the greatest injuries suffered by New Zealand is the loss of our good name for high quality butter,” said the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Holland, when speaking at Palmerston North to-night. “ The Labour Government claims to have eliminated speculation in butter, but all it did was to take over the New Zealand Dairy Board’s London officials and carry on with the Dairy Board’s selling policy.” What the Labour Government did not do was safeguard, the producers’ interests in the United Kingdom, said Mr Holland. By mixing high-grade New Zealand butter with foreign butter of inferior quality, the Dominion’s butter last its identity, and much of its goodwill No New Zealand butter was sold in Britain to-day as “ New Zealand butter,” and New Zealand’s good name and goodwill for butter of the best quality were lost. “ On our becoming the Government, we will, in co-operation with the producers themselves, do everything ,to
restore our former position and recover the lost goodwill,” he added. The meeting was one of the largest political gatherings seen here in spite of a bitterly cold night.
