After drifting more than 30 miles in a north-easterly direction since her tow from the ’ Government steamer Matai was broken, on Saturday, the dredge Taniwha and the oil barge Port Chalmers were located yesterday by the Matai about 33 miles east of Tokornaru Bay. The Matai’s master, Captain Webling, advised that he was standing by until the weather moderated before attempting to pick up the tow, and later a radio message at 8.30 p.m. stated that the seas were still too rough to reconnect the tow. The Taniwha and Port Chalmers are being taken to Auckland from Timaru and Lyttelton respectively.
