PRISON ESCAPEES
(P.A.) PALMERSTON N., Nov. 12. Major (Christian name) William Gilchrist, aged 21, and John Andrew Hislop, aged 23, who recently escaped from the prison camp at National Park, appeared before justices in the Magistrate’s Court, and were each charged with escaping from Waikune prison camp, ancl also with breaking and entering the garage of Jolly and Mills Ltd. at Palmerston North and stealing a motor car and other goods, of a total value of £556, and also with breaking and entering the shop of W. Clark Ltd.. Levin, and stealing clothing and general merchandise of a total value of £73 17s. The accused pleaded guilty to the breaking and entering charges, and were committed to the Supreme Court at Wellington for sentence. On the escape charge, they were remanded to appear at Taumarunui on November 14.
