N.S.W. CHAMPIONSHIPS
BROMWICH AND PAILS THE FINALISTS
(Rec. 8 a.m.) SYDNEY, November 7. In the semi-finals of the men’s singles at the New South Wales tennis championships to-day, IRromwich defeated Brodie, 6-4, 6-2, 6-1, Pails defeated Quist, 6-3, 6-0, 6-3.
In the women’s singles semi-finals, Mrs Bolton defeated Mrs Hopman, 6-2, 6-4, and Mrs Long defeated Miss Fitch. 4-6, 6-0, 7-5. Disappointing form has been shown by the Australian Davis Oup squad recently, but to-day Bromwich and Pails played tennis approaching their best. The ©romwich-Brodie match was mainly a base-line duel. Bromwich excelled in passing drives and delicate drop shots. Pails completely outclassed Quist, who gave a very poor exhibition. A feature of this match was the terrific serving by Pails, who scored numerous aces.
