BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING The monthly meeting of the Green Island Borough Council was held last night, and was attended by th'fe mayor (Mr J. Boomer) and Crs T. .M. McAhan, F. Gray, C. McMillan) L. Burgess, W. Wynn, D. Ballantyne, and J. Swan. • , The town clerk (Mr R. J. K. Gillies) said that no decision' had been announced in regard to the No. 4 Transport Licensing' Authority’s review of the Dunedin City Corporation’s license for the Dunedin to Fairfield* bus service, .but lie understood that someassistance would be forthcoming from the Railway Road Services at peak periods. THE BRIGHTON ROAD. The Main Highways Board wrote approving of the 1946-47 estimates for work on the Green' Island-Taieri Mouth highway, and the borough engineer was directed to draw up proposals for the work authorised lor submission .to the board. The estimates:, provided for the straightening of the Kaikorai Stream at the corner of the Brighton road and the Main South; road at a cost of £220,. and sealing the highway surface (£528). ' When the schedule of claims from tlio Otago Labourers’ Union for a prbposed new award was being dealt with, the clerk said that a meeting of the Otago | Employers’ Association would be , held to discuss the matter. All other suburban councils, as employers of labour, belonged to the association A motion by Cr Gray that the Green Island Council should join the association so it would have full knowledge of the proceedings in such claims was defeated. It was agreed, on Cr Burgesses motion, to consider the council’s attitude at the next meeting. On- the report Of the borough engineer on the new water supply Scheme being received, the clerk commented that the balance of the pipes had arrived by the Samsliee. A. grant of £6 6s was voted the Municipal Association’s “ Tribute to London ” memorial. A contribution of £5 was authorised for the St. John Ambulance Association funds.
