UNION SECRETARY IN ARBITRATION COURT
BITTER EXCHANGES WITH EMPLOYERS’ REPRESENTATIVES
SYDNEY, November 4.
Bitter exchanges between the ' employers’ representatives characterised the Mort’s Dock dispute in the Arbitration Court to-day. For calling Mr D. G. Fowler, of Metal .Trades Employers’ Association, “ a blood brother of Ananias,” W. Lane, the State secretary of _ the Federated Engine Drivers and Firemen’s Association, was rebuked by Mr Justice Sugarman. ( Mr Fowler said that, because of the action of a few recalcitrant crane drivers, the dock had been • forced to close down, and deprive 1,200 men of work.
Counsel for the Shipwrights’ Union asked for an v order preventing the employers from acting jn concert to prevent men from obtaining employment. It was alleged that members of the Employers’ Association had refused to employ men idle because of the dispute. The judge ' ordered that all the parties should attend a compulsory conference under the Conciliation Commissioner.
