WORKSHY WATERSIDERS

MAY BE REPLACED BY OTHERS

SYDNEY, Nov. 3. More than 700 registered waterriders. may be replaced by an equal number of new 'men,_ according to the Stevedoring’ Commission chairman, iMr D. V. Morrison. In spite of a shortage of labour, it has been found that 710 men have done no'work for 11 weeks. The commission -believes that, men who do not want work must make room for those who do. This absenteeism has been one of the causes of excessive overtime on the part of other men. The union secretary said that the commission’s figures had been investigated, and that it had been established that 45 men were sick, 175 were veterans with reasonable excuses, and 150 were employed permanently on the waterfront. The union agreed that men not,-following the industry should be dropped.
