A. AND P. SOCIETY

IMPROVEMENTS AT TAHUNA PARK

The monthly meeting of the Otago A. and P. Society was held on Thursday afternoon and was attended by Messrs S. P. Cameron (president), in the chair, E. M. North, J. Hellyeiy W. Lee, 'J. Mee, A. S. Murray, J. B. Blair, George Masters, K. Clark, A. H. Templeton, J. Fox, R. T. Kirk, C. T. McCallum, J. F. Aubrey, J. A. Miller, A. C. Begg, J. Allison, George Ross, D. Martin, W. 0. McKellar, and H. Turner.

A hearty welcome was extended to Mr Turner, a past president of the society, who recently returned from London, and also to other honorary life members, who were present to hear Mr Turner give some of his experiences in England. Reference was- made to the deaths of Mr A. Pell, of Waikouaiti, and Mr W. E. Adam, of Waihola, both of whom were members of the society.

It was decided to add a class for pony stallions to the summer show schedule and to buy sufficient sheep for the dog trials. Arrangements were made for the supply of green feed, and a deputation was appointed to meet the Railways Department to make the best possible train arrangements. It was pointed out that with the South Island championships being competed for in the Friesian section there would be more ■stock than usual coming long distances.

The date arranged in conjunction with stock and station agents for the 1947 Burnside ram fair on Wednesday, April 2, was approved. The question of holding an export lamb competition in this district was considered, but as the works would not be open before the last date which the Meat Board set for this to he held (December 20), and because of the backward spring,' it was decided not to hold the competition this year, and to write to the Meat Board pointing out that the closing date set for the North Island (November 30) was during the full swing of the killing season there, and gave northern farmers a decided advantage in the selection of suitable lambs, and requesting that the South Island date be altered to January 20, which would be more equitable..
