GUM CHAMPIONSHIPS

OPEN HANDICAP TO H. ROSS

The South Island gun championships were continued at Green Island yesterday afternoon when the strong wind again made conditions difficult for the shooters. H. Ross (Invercargill), off 12yds, won the £SO open handicap match from a field of 71 entrants with a possible of 20 breaks. Second, prize money was divided between the following, who each .scored 19 breaks:—A. N. Turner (Christchurch), handicap 15yds; J. Leith (Lauder), 12yds; C. M. Greenslade (Dunedin), 11yds; G. E. Turner (Dunedin), 14yds; D. Campbell (Balclutha), 15yds; and H. A. Jon&s (Aloa Creek), 11 yds. Other good scores were: W. Elliott (Balclutha), T. J. Callaghan „ (Dunedin), A. Callaghan (Dunedin), J. Brightling (Christchurch). L. Kerr (Rangiora), H. T. Weir (Dunedin), all 18 breaks; C. J. JTalzaid (Christchurch), I. G. Watkins' (Rangiora), T. AlcKinlay (Waikouaiti), D. Telford (Balclutha), A. T. Alclntosh (Aloa Creek), H. W. Brookes (Outrarn), J. R. Roy (Palmerston), all 17 breaks. There were 35 entries for the South Island skeet championship, which was shot -in the afternoon. This was won by C. J. Malzard with 23 breaks out of a possible 25, and C. R. Ogier (Christchurch) was runner-up with 21 breaks. Other good scores were : —J. -Brightling (Christchurch)., 20 breaks; W. Telford (Balclutha),, W. Elliott (Balclutha), E. P. Graham (Dunedin). A. Callaghan (Dunedin), D. W. Davidson (Culverden), J j. G. Taylor (Oamaru), all 19 breaks; S. E. Abuvn.(Dunedin), J. T. Callaghan (Dunedin), A. N. Turner (Christchurch), S. Leask (Lauder), J. Stoddart (l)unedm)., G. 31 ills (Dunedin). D. Telford (Baclutha), J. K. Begg (Dunedin), all ]8 breaks. • ■ Air R. L.
