Of absorbing interest to both the amateur conchologist and the ■ scientific worker is the second, revised and enlarged, edition, of ‘ The Shellfish of New Zealand,’ by A. W. B. Powell. The book contains a fund of interesting information concerning the system of scientific nomenclature as applied to shellfish, the preservation and storing of specimens, and a host of other aspects of this interesting hobby. There is also a check list of neariy 2,000 species and sub-species of shellfish, an increase of over 200 on the list in the first edition. The volume is profusely illustrated. Messrs Whitcombe and Tombs are the publishers.
