The appointment of Messrs G. Lawn, of Wellington, and M. Silveretone, or Dunedin, to be directors of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand was gazetted last night. Both were reappointed after serving the previous term. The appointment of Mr Duncan Cook to be medical supplies controller in place of Mr R. J. Paul was gazetted last night. The Hon. T. F. O’Byrne, M.L.0., is. retiring from the position of secretary of the Otago and Southland branch of •the New Zealand Dairy Factory Workers’ Union after nearly 33 years’ service*. Mr O’Byme’s resignation was accepted with regret at a recent meeting of members of.the union; Members paid a tribute to the sterling service that he had. given as secretary. Reference was made at the. annual meeting of the Caledonian Society of Otago last night to the death of two former directors, Messrs G. A. Laurenson and Alexander Wright j and also to a member, Mr W. Esquilant, whose son had been killed overseas. Members stood in silence as a token of sympathy. * The death of Mr A. J. Holloway, was referred to at the meeting of the Otago Swimming Centre last night, anda motion of sympathy with. his: rela- . tives was passed. The president, Mr D. F. Watson, said that Mr Holloway had been a vice-president of the centre tr a number of years, and his work r the Zenith Amateur Swimming' Club and swimming' in general had been outstanding and particularly valuable. •
. In the course-of his remarks at the annual meeting of the Caledonian Society of Otago last night, the president (Mr J. W. Young), paid a high tribute to the secretarial work performed over a long period by Mr J. S. Douglas. Advancing years made, it necessary for the directors to consider relieving him of the responsibilities he had carried 60 competently for a major part of the society’s existence, he said. . ' ■ Mr R. L. Andrew, on retiring. from the position of director of the Dominion Laboratory, was presented yesterday by Mr W. A. Joiner, assistant director, on behalf of the staff, with an armchair and bowl for Mrs Andrew, says a Wellington message. Dr E. Marsden presided over a representative gathering'. Mr 6. F. ißothamleyi retiring Clerk of the House of (Representatives, who has been associated with the Legislative Department since 1906, was the guest of honour at a farewell yesterday afternoon. His successor, Mr H. N. Dollimore, presided. Mr Bothamley was presented with an armchair, and, on behalf of Mrs Bothamley, received a Queen Anne silver coffee pot. The Rt. Hon. P. Mr Howard L. Dolamore, who has retired from the position of general manager of New;.Zealand Paper Mills Ltd., was- met yesterday afternoon at a farewell function by the directors of the company and members of the staff. Mr T. Somerville, in making a presentation on : behalf of the. board, . paid a tribute to Mr Dolamore’s business ability, and referred to the influence he had exerted, during 27 years as general i manager, in the development and progress of the company. Mr Somerville’s remarks "■ were, supplemented by his co-directors, Mr J. W. SmCaton 1 and ;Mr J. Elvidge'.- Other speakers were Mr G. R. Couling who, as secretary-manager, succeeds Mr Dolamore as executive officer of - the company, Mr D. M. Wilson, mill superintendent, Mr 0. L. Crowley, branch manager, and Miss J. Middlemass.
