ROWING SEASON IN FULL SWING
. The 1946-47 rowing season is now in full swing and the six clubs of Otago are engaged in preparing for the big season ahead. Followers of the sport are hopeful that the revival in rowing evident last season will be maintained this year, and present indications suggest that big strides are being made to bring Otago back to the high position it held in New Zealand rowing. No province approaches the record held, by Otago in the interprovincial eight-oared contests. Within the next week or so clubs will be announcing their crews for the first regatta of the season, the North End regatta on December 7. This will be followed by the Macandrew Bay fixture on Boxing Day, and of course many oarsmen will be at Bluff for New Year’s Day. Following the New Year, clubs from Otago will be busy training and putting finishing touches to their crews makirig the trips to Picton for the championship regatta early in February. Two or three clubs from the Harbour are expecting to be represented at this important fixture. Last year Port Chalmers was successful in . the champion fours, and this club will be defending its title. All oarsmen are hopeful that further successes in championship events will be the lot of Otago crews this year, especially as the championship regatta will be held here next season.
