The Australian steeplechaser, Winterset, has also arrived, and will join the same stable, Waikouaiti Meeting. It was reported at Forbury Park on Saturday that a decision in connection with the application of the Waikouaiti Racing Club to race at Wingatui on New Year’s Day will be reached by Thursday. In all probability the meeting will be held on the Oamaru course. Shaped Poorly. One of the biggest disappointments at the Forbury meeting Was.Kildonnin. He again shaped poorly on the second day of the meeting, showing no dash at any part of the race. In nis present from the. Quite Sure gelding is not a betting proposition. Consistent.

Stimulant and Imperial Grattan share the honours of being- the two most' consistent performers at the Forbury meeting. In three starts Stimulant secured two wins, and a second, while Imperial Grattan collected onq win and two seconds.' Both horses should more' than hold their own in immediate engagements. Easy Win. Although the field for the Temuika Hurdles was a very weak one,; Lost Art’s performance to win easily by four lengths suggests that further success will come his way. As Required, who now races in the interests of his trainer, J. Mitchell, fell, five'furlongs from home. Ruling Moment, who was making Iris'debut as a.hurdler;-jumped badly and tired over the final stages. Rehandicaps. Piccolo has been rehandicapped to 8.12 in the Flying Handicap and to 8.7 in the Members' Handicap at Gore, The following rehandicaps have been declared for the North Canterbury Club’s meeting:—High-weight Handicap.: Te Muka 10.5. North Canterbury. Handicap: Flying Hawk 8.9. Waikuku Handicap: Queen’s General 7.11. Wills Handicap:/ Flying Hawk 8.1. Fernside Handicap: Te Muka 8/13.. Started at Long Odds. After running. fourth in the Southland Handicap on the first day of the Forbury meeting, Convincer was allowed to go out at surprisingly long odds in the Domain Handicap, which she won by half a head from -Lord Peterson. The win dividend was well into double figures. Convincer -was produced again later in the day, but after being well placed at the halfmile, the Quite Sure mate failed to carry on. Unreliable. . Castigate confirmed the opinion that he is not,an everyday horse by giving an indifferent display in the Churchill Handicap. He did not begin correctly, and about two furlongs were covered before he settled down, Although he was in a hopeless position at this stage, he trotted very fast/ and later actually joined the bunch; but the effort had taken a lot out of him and he retired very quickly at the business end. ! Game Effort. Percy Volo made a game effort to give the novice trotters 72yds in the Tahuna Handicap. ' After making a slow beginning lie; soon settled down; and giving a splendid exhibition of trotting, gradually made up his handicap to reach Sure Maid in the lead, with five furlongs to go. Sure Maid shook the Lusty Volo gelding off going down the back, but he was still doing

well and looked a certain place-getter. Percy Volo tired in the straight, while he was also hampered; by ;a> damaged sulky wheel. When better placed" in the handicaps, he will be an early winner. : Promising Trotter.

The easiest win of the Forbury nieeting was gained by Sure Maid ,in the Tahuna Handicap. : She was one of the first to leave tne mark, and her,-su-perior speed carried her to the : front at the end of the first furlong. Except for about half , a furlong when Percy Volo shaded her, the Quite Sure mare was in the lead throughout, arid drew away in the straight when - challenged to score an effortless:win,.;-.Sure,Maid is the best prospect in her class at the present time and should be capable of winning several races before the handicaps prove beyond her.; She attracted attention on the first day of the meeting by displaying brilliant speed after hreaking up hadly on two occasions,, but she went very smoothly on Saturday and never looked like breakings Winning Owners.
