YOUTH MOVEMENT

CAMP SITE PURCHASED A long-felt need has been realised by the purchase recently of an area of land some 213 acres in extent lying at the foothills of the Maungatuas, near Berwick, which has natural attractions and possibilities for development as a Youth Camp. Only 24 miles from Dunedin by roads passing, through picturesque countryside. . 'the site rises from the plains on to the foothills of the Maungatuas, from -where an excellent view is seen of the surrounding country. . The rugged background of the hills is relieved with some pleasing patches of native bush. The property is well sheltered, yet sunny, and. possesses a. good water supply-as well as being convenient to the electric power supply. The District Council of the Christian Youth Movement, which was responsible for tfyp purchase of, the, property, has set up a Management Committee arid a board of trustees, which are to be responsible for the development and oversight of the camp. The Mayor (iMr D. C. Cameron), who consented to act as a trustee, congratulated the council upon this progressive development, and wished it every success. Camping and outdoor recreation strongly appeal to youth, and it is proposed as conditions permit to develop the camp and provide buildings and various facilities that will make this possible, and provide for all the varied activities of the movement.
